UiT builds new research vessel

Vaagland Båtbyggeri AS have signed contract for a new research vessel for UiT Norges Arktiske Universitet, designed by Skipskompetanse.

Vaagland Båtbyggeri AS have signed contract for a new research vessel for UiT Norges Arktiske Universitet, designed by Skipskompetanse. The vessel will be the yard’s number 161 and will be 26.4m x 10m. The vessel will be equipped for testing of bottom fauna as well as being equipped with trawling gear to research fish and other sea creatures. It will be arranged for education with laboratories.

The hull will be built in Poland and is expected to arrive in Norway in the spring 2022 with final delivery to UiT in the fall of 2022. Outfitting of the vessel will be done at Vaagland Båtbyggeri inside the docking hall, to ensure good quality results.

The new research vessel will be used for education within the fields of Geo science, biology, fishing tool technology and navigation. Additionally, it will be used for collection of sea and port data and educational material.

Vaagland Båtbyggeri and Skipskompetanse are satisfied that the vessel contract has been landed in Norway and that many local suppliers will be involved in the project.
