Vaagland Baatbyggeri AS have signed contract for a new research vessel for The Norwegian Arctic University (UiT), designed by Skipskompetanse. The vessel will be the yard’s number 161 and will be 26.4m x 10m. It is to be equipped for testing of bottom fauna as well as being equipped with trawling gear to research fish and other sea creatures. It will be arranged for education with laboratories.

The hull will be built in Poland and is expected to arrive in Norway in the spring 2022 with final delivery to UiT in the fall of 2022. Outfitting of the vessel will be done at Vaagland Baatbyggeri inside the docking hall, to ensure good quality results.

The new research vessel will be used for education within the fields of geo science, biology, fishing tool technology and navigation. Additionally, it will be used for collection of sea and port data and educational material.
